This shirt was officially named “The Soul Series” but was generally referred to as the Free James Brown shirt or the Soul Behind Bars shirt. It was one of the first designs by 2B Homecooked Garments (1989). Back in those days we didn’t have a press yet and printed a single color with a screen, then hand painted accent colors (see original shirt below). The next year when we got a press, this shirt was printed with a blue/yellow background behind the photo (above). This design has a picture of me with a bad haircut doing a no-footed bunny hop off a bench in Williamsburg, Virigina. Design by Steve Buddendeck.
